What is Coinbase Wallet Extension?

The Coinbase Wallet Extension is a self-custody crypto wallet that exists as a browser add-on for Chrome, Brave, and other Chromium-based browsers. Unlike the main Coinbase exchange app where the company holds your funds, the Wallet Extension gives you complete control over your private keys and digital assets.

It acts as a bridge between your web browser and the Ethereum blockchain (and many others), allowing you to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) directly without needing a centralized intermediary.

  • Self-custody: You own your keys
  • Multi-chain support out of the box
  • Seamless dApp integration

01

Download the Extension

Visit the Chrome Web Store and search for 'Coinbase Wallet'. Click 'Add to Chrome' to install the extension to your browser.

04

Create a Password

Set a strong password to unlock the extension on your daily device. This adds a layer of security for local access.

05

Pin the Extension

For easy access, click the puzzle piece icon in your browser toolbar and pin the Coinbase Wallet icon so it's always visible.

How to Use Your Wallet

Security Best Practices

With self-custody comes great responsibility. You are the only one who can access your funds. Coinbase cannot recover your wallet if you lose your recovery phrase.

Never Share Your Seed Phrase

Your 12-word recovery phrase grants full access to your funds. No support agent will ever ask for it.

Use a Hardware Wallet

For large amounts, connect a Ledger hardware wallet to your Coinbase Wallet Extension for cold storage security.

Check URL Authenticity

Phishing sites look identical to real ones. Always bookmark your favorite dApps and check the URL carefully.

Disconnect After Use

Regularly disconnect your wallet from sites you are no longer using via the settings menu.
